What did you think about your book? Was it what you expected?
In my opinion, Iqbal was a very interesting novel to read. Whenever we finished reading any scene or chapter, we were always eager to try out the next one. I had a lot of fun while reading Iqbal since I learned more about age/ prejudice inequality and bonded child labour. When we started reading Iqbal, I guessed that it's a boring and lame book due to it's dark cover. Nevertheless, the way the author leads us into the story was very interesting and its own story is unique too. I suggest that they should adjust the cover somehow so that it appeals to the audience.
What was the most surprising fact your learned from your research?
Did you know that there are about 11 million child slaves in Pakistan? That number is huge and just by reading Iqbal, we could imagine what it's like for those children in slavery. They were forced to work for hours and hours everyday which is illegal all around the world. I wonder why do people keep doing this when it's prohibited globally.
How does this book relate to your life (in school, your country, your knowledge, etc.)?
I learned much more about other children around the world after reading Iqbal. I could see how I am luckier and than 11 million children in Pakistan. My country, Vietnam is a developing country but I could still see how we are much more organized than the other countries.
How do you feel your group worked? Did everyone participate equally (do not use names)?
I think that my group worked very well. We all participated equally during discussions and we all contributed wonderful ideas to keep discussions going. One of my group members was a reminder and she always send us emails to remind us about our homework. Sending emails everyday to all the group members isn’t easy even though we can use CC. One of my group members was an expert on making movie and book trailers so he did a great job on making our book trailer. In our book trailer, we were very good actors and to be honest, I believe we are real BOOKWORMS:)
How do you feel YOU did in your group? What was a positive skill you brought to the team?
I considered that I was an important member of my group. I wasn’t the quizzer or the reminder or the secretary but I was the conversation continuer. During our book club meetings, we spent quite some time on discussing about Iqbal and we always did further research. I felt like my job plays an important role in keeping everyone motivated and interested since I always try my best to keep the conversations going. I asked and comment on my group members’ thoughts which was very helpful of me. Even though we argued sometimes, it’s still nice for all of us to sit together as a book club and have fun reading.
What is something you want to change about your Book Club?
Were I to have the power to change anything in my book club, I would change our meeting location. We were sitting in the hallway and sometimes we were distracted by our surroundings. Plus, the space in the hallway is limited so I guessed my group members and I didn’t feel very comfortable while sitting. It was pretty hot due to the fact that there was no air conditioner. Nevertheless, it was also the perfect spot for reading because it isn’t crowded, it’s a little more private and we had fun sitting around halls at school. All in all, it was a good experience reading Iqbal with my group members and I look forward to reading with you guys again:) Thanks for assisting me throughout our reading experience.
