In our Compensation Math lesson today, we learned a new strategy called Number Properties. We can use Number Properties to solve varieties of problems in Multiplication. Here is an example I want to share with you so we can get a better understanding:
EX: If 3x50=150, what is 3x49?
How I solve the problem: 3x50= 150- (1x3) =147
How and why do I get the answer:
The answer is 147. Because we know that 49 is 1 digit less than 50. That means we need to take away 1 from each group. Taking 1 from each group and there are 3 groups gives us a total of 3 ( 1x3 ).
150- 3= 147
I am sure this is going to be very helpful.
